Garden clearance, site preparation and ground works in South Brent, Devon. A D Landscapes have been asked to clear this very overgrown garden and to prepair the grounds for a patio area, pathways raised stone beds, a base for a summer house, stone steps leading into the garden and rebuild the stone walls. As you can see in these pictures the garden is extremely overgrown and the stone walls are covered in ivy with trees growing out the top. |

Landscaping in May I was asked to dismantle a retaining block wall, that was obstructing a huge part of the garden and was totally unnecessary. The idea was to open up the garden so the children had more area to play. I took two sections of the wall down and replaced it with curved sleepers, these were much more pleasing on the eye and enabled greater use of the front garden the sleepers were still being used to retain part of the bank. The bank itself was very overgrown and needed clearing to open up the space, I then moved the soil down to level the area off. |

In April I started work on aretaining wallto level a sloped garden, I gave this garden two area's; the top half was laid to lawn so that the children still have a grassed area to play. The bottom half was laid topatiofor ease of maintaining the garden. The customer wanted some bedding areas, one was made using treated garden sleepers, and the other was made along side the summer house, below the paving, and along side a retaining wall. Part of the garden was not being used at all so we have opened it up and laid a small patio area in which the customers are able to place a table and chairs and relax. |

Grass cutting to some can seem a chore, atA D Landscapeswe take great pride in our work, what might seem like a menial task to some, actually requires a great deal of knowledge, I am not saying you need a degree to cut a lawn but some basic knowledge will help you achieve your goal of having a great looking lawn. Blade height. Depending on the time of year will require you to adjust the height, the first cut should never be to low, this will damage your grass and may cause scorched soil in the sun, if you regularly cut to low. |

If you live in Devon you will understand why I have such a passion for stone, I have worked for many years mastering my talent and I think nature has given us such a wonderful resource to work with. I would say the backbone of the work that I do is generally building stone walls for terracing very steep banks. After all, this is Devon so I don't get to do many flat gardens. The great thing about stone is that it can be used in so many ways. A few of my favourites are; outdoor stone ovens- what better way to entertain friends and family with a quality built stone oven. |

I have been so worried lately that mydesign'sneed to be done on a computer, that I almost forgot whatdesignis about. The customer wants and needs and my knowledge and passion forgardendesignto create a beautifulgardenfor the customer. I should not be worrying about learning cad programmes or whatever they are called, but presenting customer with beautiful pieces of art after spending time in consultation with them. I should be selling the fact that Idesignby hand not computer, creating bespoke individual |

With so many of my customers asking me to look after their vegetable gardens or allotments I tend to get a huge influx of food they don't need or want, I only have a small family and I hate to see food go to waste, I often pass on a lot of the vegetables to family and friends, but still end up with a lot of waste, I was wondering what methods you may use to store your vegetables. I try to use all of my own garden for growing, amongst the compost heaps and landscaping materials, I still find plenty of room and I would urge anybody to grow your own vegetables, once you try it you will never stop. |
